Bath Abbey
by Moira Allen

Bath Abbey towers above the ancient Roman Baths; at the bottom of this photo you can just glimpse some of the Victorian statues of Roman emperors that guard the Baths today.

One of the beauties of Bath Abbey is the intricate fan vaulting of the ceiling. |
The Abbey's East End window depicts 56 scenes from the Life of Christ. According to one of the Abbey's helpful guides, a shard of this window, shattered by a WWII bomb, traveled all the way to Canada in the pocket of an airman who was in Bath at the time of the blast. |

The Abbey is filled with finely carved tombs and monuments. |

A small statue guards a niche near the entrance to the Abbey's Heritage Vaults. |
